IRELAND has been ranked the third most charitable country on the planet, according to a new study.
Research by online fundraising platform Savoo shows that the US and UK are the only two countries considered more generous than Ireland.
The Emerald Isle places Germany, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in third place, offering a beautiful reflection of the country’s bountiful nature.
The study took into account a number of charitable indicators, including:
- Average monthly searches for a charity
- Number of registered charities
- Foreign aid donations
- Position in the GoFundMe donor list
- Position in the World Giving Index of the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)
Ireland is the world’s number one on GoFundMe’s donor list, securing the crown for the first time in 2020.
Their report revealed that Galway was Ireland’s most generous city, closely followed by Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Waterford.
Almost 100,000 searches for charities were registered in Ireland last year, while the country has 104 registered charities, more than New Zealand which has a similar population.
The United States, by far the most charitable nation in the world, performs fantastic in every measure.
There are over 22,000 registered charities, compared to 4,000 in the UK, which ranks second, and they donated $ 35 billion in foreign aid in 2020.
