Funeral details announced for Irish country music star Ronnie Kennedy


Irish country music star Ronnie Kennedy will be laid to rest on Wednesday.

onnie, who played accordion and keyboards with Daniel O’Donnell’s band for decades, died after a long battle with cancer on Friday.

He is survived by his wife Fran and their children Alan, Karen, Gary, Derek and Laura.

Mr. Kennedy’s funeral will be at St. Mark’s Church, Springfield, Tallaght at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning September 22, followed by interment in Newlands Cross Cemetery.

A review on RIP.ie reads: “Peacefully under the wonderful care of the palliative care team at Beacon Hospital.

“Fran’s beloved husband, loving father to Alan, Karen, Gary, Derek and Laura. His wife and family are sadly missed by his sons-in-law Stephen and John, his stepdaughters Lisa and Karen, the amazing grandfather of Kane, Charlie, Jake, Ollie, Lee, Kelly, Sophie, Alfie and Abby, the sisters Maura, Paula, Caroline, Yvonne and Valérie.

“Predeceased by his brothers, Peter, Christy and Liam, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, parents, neighbors and his very large circle of friends in the music industry.

“Family flowers only, donations, if you wish, to Bone & Prostate Cancer.

“Rest at Stafford funeral home, Ballyfermot, Monday afternoon, September 20, 2021, 1 pm to 4 pm. Funeral Wednesday morning, September 22, at St. Mark’s Church, Springfield Tallaght, arriving for funeral mass at 10 a.m., followed by interment in Newlands Cross Cemetery.

Ronnie’s funeral is limited to just 100 people, but the service will be broadcast live on the day at https://stmarksspringfield.org/live-stream/.
